Today Something Wonderful Will Happen to Me!

What a pleasant affirmation to start the day with. It plants the seed that something unexpected and exciting will be revealed to you. What could it be? I think this is so brilliant because it creates a sense of positive anticipation and improves your outlook on your day and, if you reaffirm it daily, on your life.

Dragging yourself out of bed dreading the day ahead (because you hate your job and you’re stuck in a rut) like I used to do, only creates more unrest and discontent in your life. Unfortunately harping on all that is wrong, doesn’t buy you the happiness you keep wishing for.

My Weight Watchers leader just shared this affirmation with the group yesterday. And, it makes so much sense to me. Though I have not yet started to practice this affirmation by saying it out loud to myself, I know it will work. The positive outlook I’ve recently developed is the direct result of finding the slices of life that make me excited to get up in the morning. Whether it be reinforcing the French I’ve learned so far on my morning walks, looking forward to seeing a play on a weeknight, or simply listening to the chorus of birds delight in the dawning of a new day, I have found things that make my sometimes painfully unbearable work day rather palatable because I’m doing things for myself. My sole purpose in life is not just doing work that seems to have no rhyme or reason. And little by little my mind has been reprogrammed to think brighter, more propitious thoughts which over time have created in me a belief that I can make big changes in my life, one step at a time. I guess that’s called following my dreams. And in dreaming, I reinforce this something wonderful which is going to happen to me today!

Just like being in a rut and thinking negative thoughts fuels a vicious cycle that leads to boredom and despair, creating reasons to look forward to your day, finding glimmers of happiness, begets more of the same and it becomes intoxicating.

So why not create a new routine and start each day off by saying, “ Today something wonderful is going to happen to me!”?
